Pigeon River Baptist January News Letter

From your pastor’s desk:

I wanted to take a moment and share with you some very neat things that are happening at Pigeon River. We are beginning 2017 on a great note, we have had a sweet fellowship during our services and good attendance as well.

We have begun to pray about a new opportunity that has presented itself to us. I have met with the United Way of Otsego County and they have an abundance of food at certain times and would like to begin to have an active food pantry in Vanderbilt. This would be a community effort by the three churches in the community. There are many people that are in need of help especially during this time of year. Trying to make the decision between heat and food. There would be someone that will be responsible to get the food from Gaylord and bring it to the food pantry in Vanderbilt then the food will be given out to those in need. Please continue to pray about this wonderful opportunity.

Next please prepare for our fifth Sunday favorites and fellowship Sunday January 29, 2017. Please bring a dish to pass and pick your favorite hymns to sing. Bro. Dave and Ms. Jodi will be leading this precious time.

I wanted to leave you with this story. The words of Steve’s father cut deep. “You’re a complete failure. You’re an embarrassment to the family.” Compared to his talented siblings, Steve was viewed as a disgrace. He tried excelling in sports, and he did, but he still felt like a loser. He wondered, what is going to become of me? Am I a complete failure? Can I get out of this life some way, painlessly? These thoughts haunted him, but he talked to no one. He had been taught to “keep your private heartache private; keep your collapsing world bottled up.”

So Steve struggled alone. Then while he was recovering in the hospital after a tragic accident, a visitor brought him a Bible opened it to John 14. His mother read these words of Jesus to Steve: “Because I live, you also will live” (v. 19). This may be my only hope, he thought. A new way of living. Life as defined by the Author of Life. So he prayed, “Jesus, if You are the one who gives life as it is meant to be, I want it.” Transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to You alone.

Life can present despairing moments. But, like Steve, we can find hope in Jesus who is “the way and the truth and the life” (v. 6). God longs to give us a rich and satisfying life. Only Jesus can give us new life.

In Love your Pastor Bro. Allen Ballard
